Zoey back in the hospital at three weeks

THey had to build a cast for her arm to keep the IV's in... poor thing

Last Wednesday night, March 30th, Zoey ended up in the hospital at three and a half weeks old. During the day we noticed that Zoey was barely moving, VERY LETHARGIC! At night I gave her a bath and then she laid by Daniel for two hours and not moving, and that is SO NOT HER. At 10:00 her heat had sky rocketed and when we took her temp it was at 101.7. We called the on call nurse at her Dr's office and she told us to get her right to the ER. So I packed her up, borrowed my neighbors car because the durango had taken a dump, and headed to the ER. As soon as we got there they had been expecting us, thanks to the nurse calling ahead for me, and they got us right in. The doctor pulled me aside right away and told me that when a babies temp gets over 101.4 there is most likely a bacterial infection and it was very serious. I lost it... CRIED! They immediately did a spinal tap, which I had to leave the room for (they told me as a mother I should not be in there), then they took blood from her head, both hands, and both feet. By the time they were on the feet they were milking her like a cow. She just laid there as they did it. They then put a cathider in, took an x-ray and took her fever again and it had spiked to a 104.7. They gave her meds for the first time and it did go down to a 102.
We were admitted into the hospital after all this around 6 a.m. NO SLEEP for her or I at this point and so needless to say we both crashed but not for long, they had to keep coming in and checking on her. Her fever was going up and down and up and down but never went lower than 101.7. For the next couple of days Daniel and I had to switch on and off at the hospital to be with her. She would give us hope of a fever breaking and then it would spike again. Her IV's kept collapsing so they had to keep moving them around, her arm swelled up to the size of my wrists and we couldn't even hold her due to our body temps raising her body temp. She was a mess, we were a mess! On Thursday night she received a blessing from Daniel, our bishop and another man from our church.
FINALLY Friday night she started sweating, shaking and shivering... the fever was BREAKING! At 2 a.m. on Saturday I got to hold her again! Needless to say I was overcome with joy! They released us on Saturday morning and so far she is doing good! We have a followed up appointment this Friday and fingers crossed they will give us two thumbs up.
They believe that what happened is someone with a cold sore kissed her and the bacteria got into her mouth and her body was not ready for that bacteria. So when it entered her body she could not fight it and it made her temp rise. THANK GOODNESS we went to the hospital when we did and they were right on giving her antibiotics from the beginning. I am so grateful for modern medicine, blessings, prayers and love. I know they all played a part in bringing her back around and healing her.

After her first night, she was NOT feeling good AT ALL

Hooked up to be monitered

After her Spinal Tap

Ready to come home... she was so tired, her poor eyes tell you she had been through an ordeal. So happy she was finally feeling better though!

What a BEAUTIFUL baby! Congratulations. It's heartbreaking to hear about her being in the hospital, but it sounds like she is a strong girl like her mom.
